David is an ecologist and environmental economist. He has been heavily involved in the ecological aspects of renewable energy developments for over a decade, in both the public and private sectors.

He established MacArthur Green Ltd in spring 2009. Prior to establishing MacArthur Green, David worked for ScottishPower Renewables as their Senior Ecologist for over six years. During this time, David was responsible for managing ecological and environmental policy issues and working closely with key statutory and non-statutory stakeholders.

Prior to ScottishPower Renewables, David worked for 6 years with Scottish Natural Heritage in a number of roles. These include a Natura 2000 Officer, with responsibility for designating National and European Sites (SSSIs, SACs and SPAs), and an Area Officer, advising on fisheries and wind farm developments.

David graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1998 with a Degree in Ecological Science with Honours in Wildlife and Fisheries Management. He is also a qualified Economist, with a Masters degree with distinction in Economics from the University of Strathclyde, specialising in environmental regulation and policy.

KIRSTY MACARTHUR

 Kirsty is a solicitor, specialising in environmental, planning and consenting matters in the renewable energy sector.

She has experience in onshore and offshore wind, biomass, and marine renewables. Kirsty provided legal advice in relation to the first tidal development in the world in the Sound of Islay for ScottishPower Renewables (now consented), and also in respect of a prototype wave development at EMEC for the same client. She is a nominated member of the Scottish Renewables’ Marine Working Group.

Prior to working as Legal Director for MacArthur Green, Kirsty worked as an Associate for international law firm Pinsent Masons LLP. During that time Kirsty worked for clients across the energy sector, including developers such as ScottishPower Renewables, Airtricity (now SSE Renewables), AMEC Wind (now Vattenfall), and Infinis, and also funders.

Kirsty has also worked at ScottishPower Renewables as a secondee in their legal team for a year; as such she offers a particular insight into the legal requirements of renewable energy operators.

Kirsty is recognised as an Associate to Watch in 2010 and 2011 in Environment by the Chambers and Partners Guide. She is also noted as being, “exceptionally bright and enthusiastic” by the same publication.

 

 

 

PROFESSOR BOB FURNESS

Principal Ornithologist

Bob is an internationally renowned ornithologist with a 35 year track record of high quality research and project supervision. He is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Glasgow, a member of SNH Scientific Advisory Committee, on the Board of the British Trust for Ornithology, and an honorary member of the German Ornithological Society. He serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals including Journal of Ornithology, and Bird Study.

Bob chaired an international panel of experts appointed by the Danish Government to advise on the monitoring of environmental impacts of their demonstration offshore windfarms at Nysted and Horns Rev, and has co-authored several recent papers in scientific journals on assessing the cumulative impacts of wind farms on bird populations. Bob joined MacArthur Green in August 2011.

 

JON SELLER
Senior Ecologist

Jon is an accomplished ecologist with over 5 years of experience within ecological consultancy, and an additional 18 months in conservation. During this time, he has managed and undertaken numerous ecological and ornithological surveys and assessments throughout Scotland, and within the following sectors:

 

§  Renewables Developments (Windfarms, Hydro Schemes)

§  Transmission Line Upgrades

§  Road Schemes

§  Flood Relief/Prevention Schemes

§  Housing Developments

§  Landfill Site Expansion

§  Small-scale Private Developments

 

 

Prior to joining MacArthur Green, Jon spent 4 years working within a large multi-disciplinary consultancy.

Jon graduated with a BSc in Wildlife Conservation from the University of East London in 2002, before completing an MSc in Natural Resource Management at the University of Edinburgh in 2005. His undergraduate study also included a year working with the Scottish Wildlife Trust in Stirling.

 

BRIAN HENRY
Consultant Ecologist and Health & Safety Manager

Brian is an Ecologist with a specialism in freshwater ecology and is MacArthur Green's IOSH certified Health and Safety Manager.

He has a wide range of ecological and ornithological survey experience, including providing Ecological Clerk of Works for Europe's largest windfarm.

Brian graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2005 with a First Class Honours degree in Physical Geography. He also gained a Masters degree with Distinction in River Basin Management from the University of Stirling in 2009.

 

 

ANDREW RATTEY
Ecologist

 Andrew is an ecologist with a specialism in ornithology and marine ecology.

Andrew has a strong interest in ornithology, protected mammals and marine wildlife. His thesis for his Masters involved assessing disturbance on common seals at a nationally important haul out site in North Scotland.

Andrew has a Masters in Ecology (with commendation) from the University of Aberdeen (2009) and a BSc hons in Ecology from the University of Stirling (2008).

 

KIEREN JONES
Ecologist

Kieren is an ecologist with a specialism in ornithology.

He has a wide range of ecological and ornithological survey experience, including providing Ecological Clerk of Works services on Europe's largest Wind Farm and working to conserve rare species on the Balranald RSPB reserve in the Outer Hebrides.

Kieren has a BSc hons in Animal Biology from the University of Stirling (2007).

 

Zoe Smith
Ecologist

BSc, MSc

                       

 

Zoe is an ecologist whose special interest lies in ornithology, where she has a passion for birds of prey.

 

Her international experience includes a year spent in the Rhodope mountains of Greece working on raptor research with WWF, a season as an intern in Hawk Mountain, USA, and participating in the Batumi raptor count on the Black Sea, Republic of Georgia.

 

In UK, previous employers include RSPB (Hen harrier Circuscyaneus breeding bird survey 2009).

 

Zoe qualified with a BSc. Hons. in Environment and Conservation Biology and recently achieved a Masters in Wildlife Management and Conservation from the University of Reading. Her research project focused on the common buzzard Buteo buteo in southern Scotland.
