Onshore Wind Farms
Management of ornithological and ecological issues on a number of projects throughout the United Kingdom including: Black Law, Whitelee, Beinn Tharsuinn, Wether Hill, Greenknowes, Clachan Flats, BlackLaw Extension, Halsary, Lynemouth, Neslam, Floodsferry, Holbeach, Lenchwick, Queniburgh, Dyfnant and Llandinam.
Offshore Wind Farms
Provision of technical advice on the development of ornithological survey methods and the scope of the Cumulative Impact Assessment on a number of offshore projects.
Professor Bob Furness chaired an international panel of experts appointed by the Danish Government to advise on the monitoring of environmental impacts of their demonstration offshore windfarms at Nysted and Horns Rev, and has co-authored several recent papers in scientific journals on assessing the cumulative impacts of wind farms on bird populations.
Marine Renewables
Management of sea mammal, ecological and ornithological aspects of the Environmental Statement on a number of marine renewable energy projects. Projects include the Sound of Islay tidal energy array, various Pentland Firth projects and the Wave Hub project.
Kirsty has also undertaken the legal review of environmental statement for Sound of Islay tidal project (first consented tidal project in the world) and the legal review of environmental report to accompany application for the now consented wave energy test device at the European Marine Energy Centre at Orkney.
Biomass Developments
Delivery of ecological surveys for Environemental Statements and prior to commencement planning conditions.
Ecological Clerk of Works
Delivering and managing ECOW services on 6 Wind Farm sites.
Habitat Management Plans
Development, management and implementation of over 10 Habitat Management Plans for key species and habitats including: Golden Eagle, Merlin, Hen Harrier, Black Grouse, Native Woodland, Blanket Bog and Heathland.
Industry Best Practice Guidance
Author of the Scottish Natural Heritage Best Practice Advice Notes on Ecological Clerk of Works and Tree Removal and Habitat Management (April, 2009).
Marine Policy
David has been nominated by Scottish Renewables as a member of the Scottish Government's Marine Energy Spatial Planning Group and Science Sub-group.
Kirsty has been appointed as a member of the Scottish Renewables Marine Working Group
Onshore Wind Policy
David works closely with Scottish Renewables on a number of key policy areas to provide specialist ecological policy advice. These areas include: peat, ornithology and forestry policies.
